About Iyengar Yoga
YOGA builds physical health through the practice of a system of exercises called asanas which keep the body cleansed and fit. It is believed that exercise is essential for the speedy removal of toxins and for keeping blood circulation and all internal processes functioning smoothly. Yoga also looks at the mental side of life. Different breathing techniques quieten the mind and brain, offering inner peace and the ability to face upheavals and deal with problems.Bringing both these aspects together is the philosophy of yoga.
IYENGAR YOGA is a dynamic, systematic approach to Hatha yoga (poses and breathing) as developed by B.K.S. Iyengar.
The focus is on precision and alignment while building strength and flexibility. Props may be used to facilitate the student to get a sense of the full pose and prevent strain or injury.
Iyengar yoga is often chosen as the style of yoga that helps in concerns of backache, neck, shoulder, hip and knee pain as well as organic ailments. Mr Iyengar is reknown for his wholistic health sequences that have brought pain relief to many people such as violinist Yuhudi Menuhin who states:
"It [yoga]is a technique ideally suited to prevent physical and mental illness and to protect the body generally, developing an inevitable sense of self-reliance and assurance. By its very nature it is inextricably associated with universal laws: respect for life, truth, and patience are all indispensible factors in the drawing of a quiet breath, in calmness of mind and firmness of will....
...it demands a complete and total effort, involving and forming the whole human being."
